Abruzzo

The Region is essentially hilly and mountainous even if the eastern part of the territory runs , for several Km,  along the Adriatic Sea . The capital of the region is l’Aquila (Eagle)  built in 1254 by the command Frederick II, that put together several small villages (apparently 99). The region is rich of Roman civilization vestiges but its creative period reached its height during the Middle Age ( e.g.. the church of Santa Maria di Collemaggio).

My Suggestions:

L’Aquila is a city that deserves a visit but in addition visit the western part of the region, around the National Park of Abruzzo,  where there are still numerous animal species such as “The Marsican Bear” and “The Gray Wolf”.
